• Minimum of Grade 10 education. Possession of a Grade 12 certificate is an added advantage. Possession of a valid Driver’s License is also an added advantage. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, with fluency in at least two languages.
• The ability to follow and carry out instructions is essential. Good physical health and basic knowledge of manual labor are required. The candidate must meet all operational requirements of the position. A hard-working and self-disciplined individual is sought after. Previous experience as a machine operator (specifically with brush/bush cutters) within a Local Government Authority for a minimum of one year will be beneficial.

DUTIES

• Perform grass cutting and maintain a clean area according to the grass cutting schedules. Carry out any necessary work using hands or garden tools on sports fields, flowerbeds, pavements, etc. to ensure a neat and tidy environment. Take responsibility for the safe use and maintenance of machines. Remove all debris, garden waste, etc. from flowerbeds or sports fields. Use various ride-on lawnmowers and brush cutter machines to cut grass. Regularly inspect equipment to ensure its safety for use. If equipment is deemed unsafe, it should be discarded and work should continue using hand tools.

In the event that machines are not functioning or during the winter season, utilize garden tools to clean open spaces and other areas. Additionally, assist in the maintenance of parks, cemeteries, clinics, libraries, sports centers, depots, and other municipal facilities. Undertake winter treatment of all sport fields during the winter months. Fulfill any other miscellaneous tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.

The salary for this position is R153.62 per day, based on the EPWP daily rate. This is a fixed-term position. The closing date for applications is 20 February 2024 at 12:00 PM.
